An AMH / Shorthorn team led by Wayne Upton (AGBU), assessed 108 Shorthorn and Angus steers from the Durham progeny test in the Beef City chillers on October 24th. The steers were fed for 242 days at Beef City.
This line is the largest yet assessed from the Durham test and the raw, unadjusted data indicated almost no difference in the breed carcass measurements.

All measurements are being collated and outcomes generated by AGBU and ABRI to provide the first collection of carcass data to establish the multi-breed carcass EBV's for the two breeds.

Within the draft were several outstanding Shorthorn carcasses weighing up to 520kgs with eye muscle areas of 105 sq.cms.

The next kill for the Durham project is likely to be on December 9th at AMH Dinmore, when 50 steers will be knocked after completion of the 70 day Nett Feed Intake test at CRC Tullimba.

The next intake of 129 steers for the 250-day programme will enter Prime City after reaching entry weights on agistment at West Wyalong where they are currently achieving a remarkable 1.97 kgs/day gain on pasture.
