International Enquiry for Durham Bulls

The Durham progeny test continues to generate interest around the world in Australian Shorthorns. Preliminary negotiations are underway to enroll a Scottish herd in the Durham satellite programme in 2006 which is a simple procedure as the U.K. herds use the Breedplan recording system.

Scottish breeder, Mr. John Scott, Fearn Farm, Tain, is one of many breeders seeking outcross bulls which are enrolled in Durham and are cleared for export.

John is looking to use semen from Bundaleer Yankee Cruiser Y2, a bull selected for his early maturity, muscularity and moderate frame, to follow a Mr.Gus son in his registered and commercial herd. Using Yankee Cruiser will allow linkage to Durham and subsequent benchmarking of the Fearn bulls against many Australian Shorthorn sires.

Shorthorns have staged something of a revival in the UK as commercial producers are looking to the breed for maternal traits, size moderation and easy management after experiencing the problems associated with retaining a continental influence in replacement females.
